چکیده

The failure of the information-based Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) in the context of singular models can be rectified by the definition of a Frequentist Information Criterion (FIC). FIC applies a frequentist approximation to the computation of the model complexity, which can be estimated analytically in many contexts. Like AIC, FIC can be understood as an unbiased estimator of the model predictive performance and is therefore identical to AIC for regular models in the large-observationnumber limit (N →∞) . In the presence of unidentifiable parameters, the complexity exhibits a more general, non-AIC-like scaling ( N). For instance, both BIC-like (∝ logN ) and Hannan-Quinn-like (∝ log logN ) scaling with observation number N are observed. Unlike the Bayesian model selection approach, FIC is free from ad hoc prior probability distributions and appears to be widely applicable to model selection problems. Finally we demonstrate that FIC (information-based inference) is equivalent to frequentist inference for an important class of models.

Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Inference System-Genetic Algorithm Models for Prediction Groundwater Quality Indices: a GIS-based Analysis

The prediction of groundwater quality is very important for the management of water resources and environmental activities. The present study has integrated a number of methods such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) methodologies to predict groundwater quality in Kerman plain (including HCO3-, concentrations and Electrical Conductivity (EC) of groundwater)...

Cost Analysis of Acceptance Sampling Models Using Dynamic Programming and Bayesian Inference Considering Inspection Errors

Acceptance Sampling models have been widely applied in companies for the inspection and testing the raw material as well as the final products. A number of lots of the items are produced in a day in the industries so it may be impossible to inspect/test each item in a lot. The acceptance sampling models only provide the guarantee for the producer and consumer that the items in the lots are acco...

Perspective: Sloppiness and emergent theories in physics, biology, and beyond.

Large scale models of physical phenomena demand the development of new statistical and computational tools in order to be effective. Many such models are "sloppy," i.e., exhibit behavior controlled by a relatively small number of parameter combinations. We review an information theoretic framework for analyzing sloppy models. This formalism is based on the Fisher information matrix, which is in...

Change Point Estimation of the Stationary State in Auto Regressive Moving Average Models, Using Maximum Likelihood Estimation and Singular Value Decomposition-based Filtering

In this paper, for the first time, the subject of change point estimation has been utilized in the stationary state of auto regressive moving average (ARMA) (1, 1). In the monitoring phase, in case the features of the question pursue a time series, i.e., ARMA(1,1), on the basis of the maximum likelihood technique, an approach will be developed for the estimation of the stationary state’s change...

A Novel Noise Reduction Method Based on Subspace Division

This article presents a new subspace-based technique for reducing the noise of signals in time-series. In the proposed approach, the signal is initially represented as a data matrix. Then using Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), noisy data matrix is divided into signal subspace and noise subspace. In this subspace division, each derivative of the singular values with respect to rank order is u...
